Final score: HRD 92 – STRD 86
HRD just had the honour of hosting the first official roller derby bout in Finland. And who else could we invite to this event than our dear neighbours, Stockholm Roller Derby! The first time the STRD girls visited us was about 6 months ago. At that time, we trained together and now both teams have gotten to the point where we both were ready to bout against each other.
The idea for “What A Bout!” came when our skater Tigre Force met with Ratcity referee Hunter S. Toss’em at Rollercon 2010. Rollercon is a huge happening that gathers derby lovers from all over the world to Las Vegas. So we knew Hunter was coming to Europe, we needed a good reason for him to visit Helsinki, we needed a bout! Luckily the Stockholm girls were ready to take on the challenge and travel to Helsinki on short notice.
We had referees that were ready to point the finger and blow the whistle with Hunter as the Head Ref. Skaters, that had not yet passed their minimum skills tests, were working hard as NSOs. And our advanced skaters were ready to bout in front of a home audience.
And everything went as well as it could have! The bout was exciting and very close. With lead jammer changing in almost every other jam in the second period. When the clock ran out of time the final score for the night was HRD 92 – STRD 86! After victory laps and hi-fives we headed to the after party together.
Sunday wrapped up the whole weekend. We had the pleasure to be trained by Hunter S. Toss’em. No impact scrimmage with mixed teams from Stockholm and Helsinki was a perfect way to bring the two teams together and a great way to end the weekend!
