Our teams are looking for coaches

Send a freely formed application by 17.12.2018 to trainer@helsinkirollerderby.com and write in the subject field the team of which coaching group you are applying to.

The selection will be made by 27.12.2018.

 

Helsinki Roller Derby All-Stars

Helsinki All-Stars is a representative team of Finland’s most successful roller derby league with roster of 17 skaters.

Back in 2012 team started to compete actively to climb up in rankings of sports roof organisation Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA). 2014 they started to travel to North America with goal to play at highest possible level. This goal was reached 2015. Since that day the team has played at WFTDA’s DIV 1 and participated qualification tournaments in the spring and playoffs in the fall, both in North America and Europe.

When starting season 2018 team was ranked on spot 14 in WFTDA’s rankings and at the end ranking 16. Goal for the future is to play at highest possible level and succeed internationally. The team has set it’s goals very high and the whole group of respective amateur athletes are committed to work hard together to reach the goals they have set together.

We are looking for a coaching group for season 2019:
The coaching group is comprised of a head coach, an assistant coaches and two (2) team captains. The tasks are shared but the head coach carries the main responsibility of charter formations, playtime distribution, reaching goals and results.

Work description for the head coach and the assistant coaches:

  • Planning the A team season with the rest of the coaching group and with the team interleague liaison. (WFTDA tournament season: qualification tournaments, Playoffs, Championships)
  • Planning the training schedule and coaching in the training sessions together with the rest of the coaching group and attendance at practices
  • Responsibility of playtime distribution and strategy plans
  • Having feedback sessions with the players during the season, and following the skater development
  • Giving feedback about skaters and active participation to leagues Team Selection committee
  • Participating in games as a part of the team

The person chosen for the tasks commits to self-financed travels with the team to international games. Travels will not be financially compensated as salary or travel reimbursement.
Tasks can be divided within the coaching group as best suits the group and according to the members’ areas of interest and expertise.

To succeed in this role requires:

  • Very good communicational and interactional skills
  • Interest to competitive roller derby
  • Will to develop ways of working to reach the famous next step
  • Will to develop as a coach as well
  • Vigorous decision making skills

Coaching season entails full calendar year 2019 (start from January 5th). Active season last from January until November and after that some league tasks may upcome.
Team holds the right and final call to choose the coaches from the applicants.

Team is also looking for a Team Manager who’s tasks will include:

  • Travel coordination together with the team
  • Helping Team Management when needed
  • Scheduling while travelling

The person chosen for the task commits to self-financed travels with the team to international games. Travels will not be financially compensated as salary or travel reimbursement.

 

Helsinki Roller Derby Queen B’s

HRD Queen B’s are looking for reinforcements to their team management for the spring 2019!! Teams head coach is Minna Nador and assistant coach Pinja Laukkanen. Queen B´s are going to have an intensive spring season with the Finnish championshiops, goal being the gold medal. In addition to that the team will travel for the first time ever behind the Atlantic ocean to Montréal facing three tough B-teams mid June. Join us and come learn with us and be part of leading this team towards victories!!

The decision regarding the selection of the coaches is made by the team.

  • Participating in games as a part of the team

Helsinki Roller Derby ALpakka

Coaching crew for the recreational league – spring season 2019

HRD’s ALpakka is looking for coaches from January 2019 until July 2019. The decision of appointing the new coach(es) is on the team.

ALpakka is the recreational team of Helsinki Roller Derby. In ALpakka everyone can enjoy roller derby without the pressure of the more competitive teams, but it also gives the support to skaters who are aiming to play in travel teams.

The coaching crew consists from 1 to 3 coaches.

Job description for the coaching crew

  • Season planning for the recreational-team
  • Planning of the training schedule, executing the plan together and being present at the training sessions.
  • Discussions and feedback with players during the season, and follow-up of the progress of the players.
  • Feedback to the Team Selection Committee.
  • Being part of the team in the coming games

The selected coaching crew can share the tasks within the crew, finding the most suitable task for everyone considering their know-how and interest.
