Helsinki Roller Derby (HRD) published a short video of our players playing basketball on skates at out practice in the beginning of February. Playing itself was a lot of fun and the video, recorded by HRD referee Reckless Rowley by his helmet camera was just as fun towatch.
It did not take long until our video was viewed also by Torpan Pojat (ToPo), a Finnish basket ball franchise founded in 1932, who were so amused by what they saw, that they asked whether HRD would be intrested of doing some sort of collaboration together. And my oh my, did we say yes…!
So, on the 23th of March, when ToPo played against Lahti NMKY, HRD was there to make sure that the audience had something intriguing to watch during the intermissions. We played a couple of exhibition jams in the colors of our home teams (Hurtta Lottas and Saturday Fight Fever), and also showed our skills playing basket ball on skates, which I believe was very amusing to watch!
HRD wishes to give huge thank you to ToPo for having us there, and hopes that this will be the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship!
